A runaway 2

“Our working hours were from 6 o’clock morning summer and winter till 7 in the evening, there were no night workers. We had only 10 minutes allowed us for our breakfasts, which were always brought to the Mill to us…2 days in the week we had an hour allowed us for dinner, while the machines were oil’d.”

When questioned about why he had run away, Thomas explained “I had no reason to be dissatisfied with my situation, but during my illness I thought of my Mother and wanted to see her….”
